OOCL introduces seventh eco-friendly 24,188 TEU vessel

Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. (OOCL) has introduced another green 24,000+ TEU mega vessel.

On 5 January 2024, the newest member of OOCL’s fleet was christened OOCL Valencia at a ceremony conducted at the Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (NACKS) shipyard.

The vessel is the seventh in a series of 12 eco-friendly 24,188 TEU vessels ordered by OOCL, as well as the first OOCL new vessel in 2024 that will run OOCL’s Asia-Europe LL1 route.

Yu Tao, Director and Member of Executive Committee of OOCL, said: “Last year, OOCL received a total of six new container vessels and thus rapidly optimised the fleet structure of both OOCL and the group.

“In the new year, in addition to the OOCL Valencia, more high-quality and high-performance ships will sail from here. OOCL and NACKS will continue to work for win-win cooperation, grow together, and strive to create value for customers and society.”

In September 2023, OOCL added another mega containership to its fleet, ‘OOCL Zeebrugge’, the fifth environmentally friendly 24,188 TEU vessel in a series of 12.

One month later, OOCL named its sixth eco-friendly 24,188 TEU, the OOCL Gdynia.
