OOCL introduces fifth 24,188 TEU mega vessel

Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. (OOCL) has added another mega containership to its fleet, ‘OOCL Zeebrugge’, the fifth environmentally friendly 24,188 TEU vessel in a series of 12.

At a ceremony held at the Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (NACKS) shipyard, Shi Lei, Deputy General Manager of SUMEC Corporation Limited and Chairwoman of SUMEC Machinery & Electric Co., Ltd, named the vessel in the presence of a number of distinguished guests, including customers and business partners.

Kenny Ye, Chief Operating Officer of OOCL, stated at the ceremony: “The company’s interim results reflect the robustness of OOCL’s business operations through changing markets. Looking ahead, this series of new mega vessels will continue to bring economies of scale to us, and to optimise OOCL’s fleet structure, enabling us to better navigate uncertainties in the future.

“In addition, the latest technological and green features of these vessels demonstrate our determination to be at the forefront of our industry, driving development forward with the most comprehensive, advanced technology and in the most sustainable way.”

The OOCL Zeebrugge will join the OOCL Spain, OOCL Piraeus, OOCL Turkiye, and OOCL Felixstowe on the Asia-Europe LL3 loop route.

Its port rotation is:

Shanghai / Xiamen / Nansha / Hong Kong / Yantian / Cai Mep / Singapore / Piraeus / Hamburg / Rotterdam / Zeebrugge / Valencia / Piraeus / Abu Dhabi / Port Kelang / Shanghai 

In August 2023, OOCL announced a profit attributable to equity holders of $1.13 billion for the six-month period ended 30 June 2023, compared to a profit of $5.66 billion for the same period in 2022.
