Piraeus Port has welcomed the Orient Overseas Container Line Europe (OOCL) containership, OOCL Piraeus, to its harbours.
Chinese state media, Xinhua, reported that on its maiden 84-day round trip voyage connecting Asia with Europe, the container vessel arrived on 10 July at the premises of Piraeus Container Terminal S.A. (PCT), a subsidiary of COSCO Shipping.
According to Xinhua, the OOCL Piraeus, with an overall length of 399.9 metres and a moulded width of 61.3 metres, has a nominal container capacity of 24,188 TEU and is one of the world’s largest container vessel.

Zhang Anming, Managing Director of PCT, delivered a speech during a special welcome ceremony organised at Piraeus Sailing Club in Piraeus, Greece.
“The very presence of OOCL Piraeus here signifies the fact that the port has become a critical link of the new trade route connecting the Far East to Europe and Africa,” stated Anming.
Anming added that Piraeus is the top container port in the Mediterranean and one of Europe’s four most significant marine commerce centres.
In October 2022, the Piraeus Port Authority announced financial results for the first half of 2022, setting a new all-time record in revenue and profitability.
More recently, the port reported a yearly income of €194.6 million ($207.5 million) in 2022, a 26.2 per cent increase over 2021.
