Wan Hai holds ship naming ceremony for new containership

Wan Hai Lines Ltd. has held a ship naming ceremony for the Wan Hai A13 at Samsung Heavy Industries Geoje shipyard.

Following the event, the ship was delivered at Geoje shipyard and transported to Shanghai Port to begin on the company’s Asia to East Coast of North America service.

The vessel is the eighth of the 13,100 TEU series containerships contracted between Wan Hai Lines Ltd. and Samsung Heavy Industries.

Six additional vessels from the same series are reportedly still yet to be constructed and delivered. These containerships have a total length of 335 metres, a width of 51 metres, a draft of 16 metres, and a maximum cruising speed of 22 knots.

They are powered by modern engines and have ecologically beneficial designs such as complete balanced twisted bulb rudders and pre-swirl fins, which contribute to energy savings and fuel efficiency.

Furthermore, these vessels have received “Smart Ship” certification, assuring safe and dependable marine transportation services.

In October 2023, Wan Hai Lines Ltd. hosted a combined ship naming ceremony for two additional vessels at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan Shipyard.
