ShibataFenderTeam modernisation project implemented with its 11 Cone Fenders

Dutch marine firm ShibataFenderTeam (SFT) has installed 11 of its Cone Fenders at Puerto Coquimbo as part of its modernisation project.

Puerto Coquimbo is a public and multifunctional harbour in northern Chile, in the region that bears its name; it serves as a gateway linking Coquimbo to the sea.

In November 2019, a modernisation project involving the building of a third dock capable of accepting bigger vessels was launched.

According to SFT, this endeavour aims to contribute to the development and revitalisation of the local economy, ultimately enhancing the port’s competitiveness and economic growth of the region.

The contractor selected for this project tasked SFT with designing and supplying the fender systems for the new berth. The final order included 11 SPC Cone Fender Systems (1400 G2.4) and 16 T-Head Bollards (150 tonnes).

The rubber fenders were constructed with chemical anchors to fit into the first phase’s precast concrete, while the chains were designed with U Anchors to be cast into a later-stage concrete top beam.

In April 2023, SFT supplied 21 sets of Cell Fender Systems to the IJmuiden Sea lock.

Two months later, SFT engineered an optimised design solution with 80 fenders for the new Lekki Port in Nigeria.
