Sweden’s newest major freight port, Stockholm Norvik, has been officially inaugurated after opening in 2020.
The King and the Crown Princess of Sweden visited Stockholm Norvik Port on 26 April and ceremonially cut the ribbon.
The freight port had opened when the pandemic was at its height, which meant that the official opening ceremony had to be postponed.
Stockholm Norvik Port is a new Ro-Ro and container port located in the Baltic Sea.

“Today nine goods in 10 arrive in Sweden by sea and Stockholm is by far the largest consumer region in the country,” said Karin Wanngård, Mayor of Stockholm.
“We want to provide the best preconditions to get these goods as close to their final destination by sea as possible.
“With this new state-of-the-art port we can do that. This does not only create growth for Stockholm, but for the entire region and much of the rest of Sweden too,” Wanngård added.
More recently, a new train service was opened between Stockholm Norvik Port and the Eskilstuna Intermodal Terminal.
