A severe collision caused by a vehicle in the Port of Blyth led to bollards at the port being rendered out of order and seeking the expertise of bollard safety testing company Bollard Load Testing (BLT).

The Port of Blyth decided that even though there were no visible signs of damage to the bollard or surrounding structure, it wasn’t safe to continue operations.

Simulating vessel mooring lines and testing from 0 to 20 degrees using the new Patent Pending Bollard Load Testing equipment and Roller Kickers, the bollard in question was restored.

At the time of the test, the bollard met its ‘Safe Working Load’ of 40 tonnes, with no sign of structural defect to either the bollard or surrounding structure.
