ShibataFenderTeam Group has supplied over 300 fenders to protect Belgium’s historic bridge, Pont des Trous.
The bridge, which was built over the Scheldt River in the 13th century, is considered one of the most important examples of Belgian medieval architecture.
In recent years, authorities outlined a plan to renovate the Scheldt riverbanks, which included broadening the main arch of the bridge to allow for the passage of 3000-tonne vessels.
ShibataFenderTeam worked alongside its local agent CGK Maritime and contractor BAM Galère to protect the bridge from river traffic.
In total, the team supplied 268 V Fenders, also known as Arch Fenders, with UHMW-PE pads, and 44 Cone Fender Systems.

The fenders were placed on two floating caissons, each 130 metres long and weighing 300 tonnes, due to the very old, bricked quay wall where no fenders could be mounted.
According to the group, these fenders will serve as a vessel guide and protect the bridge from the possible impact of large vessels passing by.
To ensure the safe berthing of larger vessels at the new infrastructure, ShibataFenderTeam supplied 41 sets of CSS Cell Fender Systems, each consisting of one rubber fender unit and a closed box panel with UHMW-PE pads.
