ShibataFenderTeam, Straatman equip new jetty at Zeebrugge port

The ShibataFenderTeam (SFT) and Straatman have supplied berthing equipment for improved operations at Brittanniadok terminal in the Port of Zeebrugge, Belgium.

In total, SFT in cooperation with CGK Maritime & Infra Constructions has supplied 12 sets of 2000kN Staghorn Bollards, made of cast steel GE300 – all third party certified.

Straatman has delivered 13 free-standing capstans to be used in hazardous areas. The capstans were manufactured in Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands.

Mooring capstans are used to for safe and efficient mooring of vessels. Driven by high-quality electric motors, they can be an integrated part of quick release mooring hooks or free standing and they are designed and manufactured to endure harsh weather conditions.

According to the companies, the joint work resulted in the delivery of high-quality products to allow larger vessels at the new berth.

The Port of Zeebrugge is the country’s largest cargo and passenger port, handling cargo and RoRo ships primarily. Brittanniadok, in the outer port area, is a RoRo Terminal, mostly dedicated to the automotive industry, trailers and containers.

Renovation works at the port’s quay 609 to moor larger vessels began in 2021.

“We at ShibataFenderTeam are proud of this simple, yet powerful example of a collaboration between two experts in the marine industry to protect vessels, infrastructures and people, as well as to drive modernisation and growth, in this case by ensuring berthing operations of larger vessels at Brittanniadok,” reads SFT’s latest statement.

Just recently, SFT, together with Soletanche Bachy, equipped the new berths at Port le Havre with 45 Special Element Fender Systems (FE-S 1250).

The 7.2 metre-high fender systems were designed to consider big tidal variations of around 8 metres and were built to safely accommodate berthing of large vessels of more than 300 metres.
