Port of Riga welcomes its largest containership

The Port of Riga has received its largest containership in its history.

The MSC Maritina V is 266 metre long and 37 metre wide and sails under the flag of Madeira (Portugal) with a maximum capacity of 4,533 TEU.

The ship was accommodated at the berths of SIA Rīgas Centrālais Termināls and has now been shifted to the berth of the SIA Baltic Container Terminal, where loading works will continue.

On 8 February, the container carrier left the Port of Riga and set sail to the port of Le Havre in France.

Currently, six regular container lines – CMA CGM, Maersk, MSC, Sea Consortium Pte. Ltd Trading, Unifeeder, and Samskip Multimodal B.V. operate via the Port of Riga.

Compared to the previous year, the volume of containerised cargo has increased by 9.8 per cent.

Additionally, for the first time in the history of the Port of Riga, container cargo were the largest cargo group and accounted for 27 per cent of the port’s total cargo portfolio.

Just recently, the Freeport of Riga Board elected Gints Sīviņš as its Chairman, while Edgars Štelmachers will henceforth be the Deputy Chairman of the Board.
