The Freeport of Riga Board has elected Gints Sīviņš as its Chairman, while Edgars Štelmachers will henceforth be the Deputy Chairman of the Board.

Gints Sīviņš commented on his appointment as the new Chairman of the Freeport of Riga Board: “As the Board Chairman, it will be my responsibility to continue the work aimed at increasing the port’s efficiency and competitiveness, which will be challenging enough in this time full of uncertainties.

“In my opinion, it is important to speed up the digitalisation and automation of the port processes, as well as to continue the port infrastructure development projects. One of the priorities will be the industrialisation of the port, attracting both foreign and domestic investments to the port areas.

“At the same time, I would like to develop the port into an environmentally- and neighborhood-friendly logistics centre of excellence, fostering new cooperation with universities, researchers, non-governmental organisations and modern technology companies.”

Sīviņš is now serving in the Ogre municipality for the second time as the Deputy Chairman of the Ogre Municipality Council.

Since 2021, Sīviņš has served on the Freeport of Riga Board as a delegate of the Minister of Economics.

In June 2023, the Ports of Stockholm, the Freeport of Riga Authority, and Riga Ropax Terminal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to apply for joint EU funding to reach their environmental targets.

More recently, in July, it was reported that the Port of Riga exceeded its revenue by an impressive €1.9 million ($2.1 million) in 2022.
