Pilbara Ports records cargo increase in February

Pilbara Ports records 52.7Mt throughput in February

The Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA) delivered a total monthly throughput of 52.7 million tonnes (Mt) in February 2024.

This throughput decreased by 4 per cent compared to February 2023.

The Port of Port Hedland reportedly reached a monthly throughput of 39.5 million tonnes, with iron ore exports accounting for 38.8 million tonnes.

According to PPA, there was little variation in overall throughput compared to February 2023. Imports through the Port of Port Hedland reached 157,000 tonnes, a 3 per cent drop from February 2023.

The Port of Dampier delivered a total throughput of 12.3Mt, a 16 per cent reduction from February 2023. Imports through the Port of Dampier were 127,000 tonnes, a 46 per cent increase from February 2023.

PPA identified numerous factors that influence the fluctuation of throughput, including market conditions, port maintenance operations, and proponent needs.

In July 2023, PPA concluded the fiscal year impressively, attaining record throughput for the fourth consecutive year.
