The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) has welcomed Jeff Bellerud as Chief Operating Officer (COO).
According to NWSA, Bellerud will be responsible for monitoring maritime activities such as rail, road, ports, breakbulk operations, and canal management.
Bellerud’s career covers the West Coast from Los Angeles to Vancouver, British Columbia, and includes considerable strategic level expertise in terminal operations and Class 1 railroads.
His most recently worked as CN Rail’s Director of Intermodal & Port Operations, where he oversaw port operations for 14 marine terminals spanning seven port authorities in North America, as well as all elements of operations for seven inland terminals in Western Canada.

Bellerud said: “I believe The Northwest Seaport Alliance has big things on the horizon. I am excited to be leading a dynamic team to continue to drive operational value for our partners and this gateway.”
The NWSA said that Bellerud’s vision for the port authority includes supporting waterfront workers, assisting clients in navigating market uncertainty, and strengthening the port authority’s position as the preferred global commerce gateway.
Don Esterbrook, Deputy CEO of NWSA, stated: “Jeff’s senior level experience with a Class I railroad and extensive experience in container terminal operations make him an outstanding choice to help drive the Alliance forward.”
In September, NWSA reported a 15.5 per cent increase in total container volumes, with 329,609 TEU handled.
Two months later, NWSA reported it will receive $54 million in grant funding from the 2023 Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP).
