Navis, a provider of operational technologies for ports and terminals, has announced an agreement with South Asia Gateway Terminals Ltd. (SAGT) to deliver optimization and analytics services.

Support from Navis, according to a statement, is expected to prepare the terminal for future growth.

The strategic agreement, which was finalized at Navis World in March 2019, builds on the successful relationship previously established by both parties and will allow the Sri Lankan facility to access further benefits from Navis’ N4 terminal operating system (TOS).

Situated in the Port of Colombo, one of the world’s fastest growing trade hubs, SAGT is positioned on the main East-West shipping route, linking it with Africa, Europe and the US East Coast.

The terminal has been utilizing Navis solutions for around two decades, leveraging new technologies to achieve high levels of productivity and attract a large customer base.

SAGT, which had an original design capacity of 1.1 million TEU, recorded a container throughput volume of approximately 2 million TEU in 2018, results which have prompted the terminal operator to further optimize its activities.

An improvement programme, to be launched with the help of Navis, includes yard strategy improvement and terminal truck optimization, areas of performance that can be boosted with smart KPI measurement and analytics.

Romesh David, CEO at SAGT, commented: “We are very pleased to be expanding our relationship with Navis to engage in value-added optimization services that go well beyond initial implementation.

“We have grown a successful business alongside Navis, and look forward to continuing to work with them to drive efficiencies, analyze performance and ultimately deliver even better customer service.”

Bruce Jacquemard, Chief Customer Officer at Navis, also made a statement: “Our ongoing partnership with the SAGT is a testament to the terminal’s commitment to continued excellence and innovation as a strategic Asian port.

“SAGT realizes the value of getting the most out of operations and analytics through our optimization services and sees the long-term opportunity to attract more customers and deliver superior service to a growing volume of top-tier carrier business.”
