Metrans, the rail subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), is offering a daily rail link for container transit between Hamburg and Kornwestheim.

According to HHLA, the service kicked off 8 January 2024. Metrans now offers a direct link to the seaports of Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven, as well as the ability to move goods in both ways.

This comes after almost two years after Metrans announced it saw a large reduction in carbon emissions after it converted all its trains in Germany and Austria to green electricity.

In March 2023, Metrans acquired a 51 per cent stake in Croatian railway company, Adria Rail.

More recently, in December 2023, Port of Hamburg Beteiligungsgesellschaft SE, a totally-owned subsidiary of Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC), announced the outcome of its voluntary public takeover offer for HHLA at the conclusion of the extra acceptance time.
