The Argentinian terminal operated by TecPlata S.A., a subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI), in cooperation with Vessel S.A. will launch a new weekly service between the La Plata Port and the Port of Montevideo in Uruguay.
ICTSI has disclosed that the new service will allow import and export cargo to reach new markets and expand TecPlata’s services further across the Gulf Region, the US East Coast, the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. It will also add to TecPlata’s services connecting to Brazil and Asia.
Bruno Porchietto, TecPlata Chief Executive Officer, described the new service as a milestone that will enable the company to continue its sustained growth over recent years.
The new feeder connection between TecPlata and Montevideo also looks to provide importers and exporters with more alternatives as well as improve the cost and operational efficiency of Argentine foreign trade.
The service is set to commence in July 2022 and will be operated by Vessel S.A.’s 650-TEU capacity barge Gabrielle, which also features 50 connections for reefer containers.
Both terminals can absorb approximately 86 per cent (1.5 million TEU) of Argentina’s total cargo volume, and new funds will further support flow of trade in the metropolitan areas of Greater Buenos Aires and Greater La Plata.
