Global Ports upgrades Far Eastern terminal equipment fleet

Global Ports has acquired three new Straddle Carriers for its Far Eastern terminal, Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company (VSC), in Primorsky Krai.

The equipment was added to VSC’s fleet as part of Global Ports’ modernisation initiative to improve terminal capacity in Vostochny.

ZPMC, a prominent port equipment manufacturer, built the straddle carriers for VSC. The machines have reportedly a load capacity of 40 tonnes and will be used for in-port transportation and stacking of containers.

With the new machines, VSC currently has 27 straddle carries. The fleet will soon expand to include eight tractor-trailer systems and two front loaders with lifting capabilities of 16 and 32 tonnes.

In 2023, VSC commissioned two Liebherr LHM 550 extra-heavy mobile harbour cranes, six RMGs and
three RTGs, four reachstackers, including two units with increased load capacity, as part of its capacity
modernisation programme.

In addition, in 2022-2023 Global Ports relocated more than 25 units of port equipment from North-West terminals to VSC.

In Q4 2023, Global Ports witnessed a container throughput of 264,000 TEU, up 5.9 per cent QoQ and 47.5 per cent year-over-year (YoY), surpassing market growth.
