APM Terminals (APMT) has released a new video showing the first Ship-to-Shore cranes arriving at the new deep-sea container terminal at the Port of Vado Ligure, Italy.
The arrival is the latest stage of a massive maritime redevelopment, with the aim of improving trade throughout the Mediterranean, in particular the Rhine-Alpine Corridor, a key gateway on which Vado Ligure sits.
The port is run by the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, which since a reform of Italy’s maritime governance in 2016 has also overseen the ports of Genoa and Savona. Together, they form the country’s biggest and busiest port cluster.
A recent Port Technology technical paper looked at the future of container terminals
Vado Ligure has the Mediterranean’s leading fruit and container reefer terminal, with an annual capacity of 250,000 TEU.
The new 700m deep-sea berth will be able to handle the latest generation of mega vessels. Combined with advanced automation technology, it is the newest logistic gateway for the Mediterranean and central European markets.
PTI reported on the arrival of the first batch of Automated Rail Gantry Cranes (ARMG) at Vado Ligure in May 2018.
