Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation, has announced that Copenhagen-based Thorco Projects will use its Bluetracker solution to monitor the performance of its vessels.

According to a statement, the project shipping specialist operates one of the largest multi-purpose fleets in the world, including ships which are able to handle unusually large and heavy types of cargo.

With reliable performance and high levels of flexibility crucial for Thorco, as a carrier of break bulk and heavy cargo, the firm has agreed a deal with Navis to gain assistance in efficiently overviewing its vessels.

The Charter Monitor module of Bluetracker One is expected to help Thorco achieve greater visibility of charter-party compliance, enabling the company to track operational speed alongside fuel oil consumption.

Navis’ system gives shippers an automatic notification if the speed consumption curve exceeds certain limits and allows Thorco to collaborate more closely with its ship managers to ensure optimal performance.

In addition to this, Bluetracker One enables performance and operations departments to further their cooperation by providing a single platform for information and data to be shared.

Patrick Brehmer, Navis, discusses how to make vessel visits more efficient in a recent Port Technology technical paper

Thomas Mikkelsen, CEO at Thorco Projects, said: “Operating a mixed fleet of own and chartered vessels in a spot-market business is often a challenge, since the operational vessel performance data are being evaluated from different perspectives with different priorities.

“Establishing a multi-tenant source of truth that ensures the same level of knowledge about operational data in real-time of different stakeholders is a step towards effective operations in a dynamic market based on collaboration.”

Selke Eichler, Global Director Customer Support at Navis Carrier and Vessel Solutions, added: “The availability of operational vessel performance data at any place, at any time, is seen as an added value – especially by the technical managers amongst our customers using Bluetracker.”
