Port of Melbourne reports 4 per cent YoY decline in April 2025
The Port of Melbourne has reported a 4.0 per cent year-over-year (YoY) drop in April 2025 container throughput, totalling 270,000 TEUs.

In April 2025, full container import volumes (excluding Bass Strait) increased to 105,000 TEUs from the previous year, while furniture, home appliances, and paperboard all performed better than the previous year.

Full container export volumes (excluding the Bass Strait) fell to 56,000 TEUs, down 1.8 per cent from the previous year.

Total non-container trade in April 2025 reached 2.31 million revenue tonnes, a YoY increase of 5.8 per cent (up 126,000 revenue tonnes) compared to April 2024.

The Port of Melbourne reported container throughput of 263,000 TEUs in February 2025, marking a 3.1 per cent YoY decline.

One month later, container throughput at the Port of Melbourne reached 267,000 TEUs in March 2025, down 6.2 per cent YoY from March 2024.
