BIMCO appoints new Deputy Secretary General

The Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) has appointed Stinne Taiger Ivø as the company’s new Deputy Secretary General.

After 39 years of service, Søren Larsen, the current Deputy Secretary General in charge of BIMCO’s contractual activities, will retire in May.

Ivø joined BIMCO in early 2022 to lead the Contracts & Support department, which is reportedly responsible for providing the shipping industry with contracts and clauses in close collaboration with industry representatives.

Prior to working at BIMCO, Ivø headed the claims department of marine insurer Skuld (Copenhagen), worked at Danish Shipping (formerly known as the Danish Shipowners’ Association) and as a lawyer at Gorrissen Federspiel’s department for Shipping/Offshore/Transportation.

Ivø will be representing one of the key business sectors at BIMCO, Contracts & Clauses, as part of the leadership team, as the shipping industry faces an increase in new requirements from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the European Union on the route to decarbonisation.

In August 2023, BIMCO recorded a new containership delivered in the first seven months of the year set a new high of 1.2 million TEU in 2023, exceeding the previous record by 200,000 TEU.

Two months later, BIMCO recorded that the average age of the container fleet has increased by 4.3 years during the past 13 years.
