An article released by Maersk Line shows its Remote Container Management (RCM) initiative for ensuring reefer containers are transformed into a digitally connected device so that it can be tracked across all points of the supply chain.
RCM is what allows Maersk Line to monitor the temperature and humidity in the container, as well as handle alarms remotely and complete faster pre-trip inspections.
PTI previously reported on a news article in which Vincent Clerc, CCO of Maersk Line articulated the importance of having a reliable cold chain in place, stating that RCM is what enables greater visibility over cargo.

The concept is what enables reefer containers to be monitored in the right environment.
Maersk Line has already implemented RCM within 270,000 of its reefer containers.
Technical Paper: Challenges for the Containerised Reefer Trade
Catja Rasmussen, Head of RCM at Maersk Line, said: “With RCM, we have developed an e-PTI method that can take that process down to 12 minutes by calculating the condition the reefer is expected to arrive at the inspection point in.”
It believes that this form of container tracking significantly increases cargo care, while reducing the volume of damaged cargo.
