The Ports of Auckland have released a video demonstrating its 82.3m tall and 2.100 tonne ship-to-shore (STS) container cranes, including a view of them arriving and being unloaded.
The Ports of Auckland received the STS cranes in October 2018 and became operational six months later. They were ordered to meet the increasing container demand of Auckland and New Zealand and the region is now capable of 11, TEU vessels.
During unloading and installation, each crane was hydraulically lifted and winched onto rails. Once off the ship, the cranes were lowered onto temporary rails and slid down onto the wharf’s permanent rails.
The video continues with a view from the top of the cranes themselves, as well as inside the machine room and cabin.
