Wärtsilä to develop a medium gas carrier newbuild project

Wärtsilä has announced it will supply cargo handling and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) fuel supply systems for a new Medium Gas Carrier (MGC) vessel being built for Turkish ship owner Pasco Gas.

Wärtsilä booked the contract with Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) in Q4 2023.

The vessel with a capacity of 45,000 cubic metres (m3) was bought as an option following an earlier newbuild contract signed in February 2023.

Both ships have the same Wärtsilä scope of supply. Wärtsilä’s primary customer is HMD, and the two firms have collaborated on multiple newbuild projects.

Hans Jakob Buvarp, Sales Manager, Cargo Handling Systems, Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, said: “We are pleased to add this vessel for Pasco Gas to our impressive list of references and to extend our close and long relationship with HMD.”

The Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled for delivery to the yard commencing in July 2025.

In November, Wärtsilä introduced the marine sector’s first commercially available four-stroke engine-based solution for ammonia fuel.

One month later, Wärtsilä announced that it would deliver cargo handling and fuel supply systems for four new 40,000 m3 gas carrier vessels.
