Two Dead in Korean Shipbuilding Blaze

A fire has caused two fatalities and seven other injuries at Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME)’s shipyard at 09:45am local time, on the August 24, 2015, according to IHS Maritime 360.

The cause of the blaze is said to be a large gas carrier which burst into flames while it was under construction.

The seven workers who were injured were rushed to hospital.

BW Maritime, Dorian LPG, and Shandong Shipping all have ships on order at DSME but it is not known which vessel was affected.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

The incident comes shortly after a devastating explosion at Tianjin Port, where a shipment of explosives had allegedly caught fire, killing more than 100 people and injuring several hundred others.

Investigations into the blaze continue.
