An infographic released by Vessels Value shows the top 10 ship owning countries in 2016, in which Greece – despite deep ongoing economic woes – has held its lead as the top country by fleet value.
The next four ship owning countries also appear to have held their positions, although the value of their fleets has slipped since 2015, which could be attributed to the scrapping of ships amid a period of crippling overcapacity in the industry.
Despite issues of overcapacity, PTI previously reported that the global container fleet is set to see the slowest rate of growth in more than 25 years – increasing at a rate of 4.6% in 2016.
