Siport21, a maritime and port engineering consultancy, has revealed its newest smart system aimed at improving decision making related to the operation of vessels in ports.
The new system, which has been specialized for use in LNG terminals, will improve the control of operational limits, define tug requirements and aid in navigation and berthing.
The program has been partially implemented at the Outer Port of A Coruña, where it has been tracking and characterizing the behaviour and conditions of moored vessels.
Using a sophisticated GPS RTK system, developed by Siport 21, the motions of moored vessels under the influence of the wind and tide were measured in six degrees of freedom with high accuracy.
This has helped build valuable field data on berthing conditions and optimal mooring layouts — as well as quantifying the level of availability at ports and assess the need for, and impact of, future modifications to the port.
Siport21 is now working to apply this system on a global level to several national and international ports.
