RWG handles five millionth container

Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) has passed another milestone by handling its five millionth deep sea container since its opening in September 2015.

In a statement, the RWG said its five millionth container was offloaded from the liquified natural gas (LNG) powered, 23,000 TEU CMA CGM Concorde on 3 July 2021; the vessel arrived on 1 July 2021.

Ronald Lugthart, CEO of RWG: “We are very proud of having achieved this milestone in RWG’s short history.

“It is a team effort of RWG as a whole and thanks to the trust of all our customers, partners and stakeholders.”

The vessel left RWG on 4 July 2021 towards Malta Free Port Terminal, where it will eventually journey towards the Westport Terminal at Port Klang, Malaysia.

The container move milestone is the latest to be reached by RWG. In August 2017 it handled its one millionth container and 2.5 millionth in April 2019.

The speed at which RWG has processed its five millionth container demonstrates how fast demand has grown since 2015 and its handling efficiency.

In April 2020, it delivery of two new deep sea quay cranes, as it continues its drive to optimise services and capacity.
