Porto Itapoá announces new service connecting it to Europe

Porto Itapoá has announced that it will have another major service launched by Ocean Network Express (ONE) and Cosco Shipping.

With weekly stopovers, the LUX service connects Europe and the Mediterranean to the East Coast of South America.

Important ports are part of the route, such as Rotterdam (the Netherlands), Hamburg (Germany), and Antwerp (Belgium), among others.

The LUX route will be as follows:

Rotterdam – London Gateway – Hamburg – Antwerp – Lisbon – Algeciras – Santos – Paranaguá – Montevideo – Buenos Aires – Itapoá – Paranaguá – Santos – Rio de Janeiro – Algeciras – Rotterdam.

The first ship to dock in Itapoá will be the Lady Jane, on 28 September.

The ship measures at 294 metres in length, the vessel has capacity for over 5,000 TEU and sails under the flag of the Marshall Islands.

According to Sergni Pessoa Rosa Jr., Director of Operations, Technology and Environment at Porto Itapoá, LUX is an interesting option for importers and exporters alike.

“The line serves some of the most important ports in Europe, a very interesting market,” said Rosa Jr.

“LUX is the only service available on the market that makes a direct connection from Lisbon to the east coast of South America.

“It’s important to bear in mind that this service also has stopovers in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Montevideo, Uruguay,” he concluded.

In July 2023, the first FIL service ship from South Korean Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) docked in Porto Itapoá.

More recently, Porto Itapoá became a terminal with ‘zero landfill’ status and a reference in sustainability thanks to its recycling initiative.
