Port of Valencia relishes from container rate increase

According to the Statistical Bulletin of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), the amount of tonnes entering and exiting Valencian ports increased by 5.11 per cent compared to the same month in 2023.

PAV reported that its tonnes has exceeded six million. Containers follow the same rising trend, with the number of TEU that have entered and exited Valencian terminals growing by 10.93 per cent (to a total of 388,366 containers), boosting traffic for full and empty containers.

This is described in the PAV’s Statistical Bulletin for the month of January, which indicates that in the first month of the year, the Valencian docks handled greater cargo belonging to the iron and steel industry (3.8 per cent) and the fertiliser sector (+20.72).

On the other hand, the bulletin shows a reduction in the energy sector by 40.48 per cent, while the remainder of the sectors remain quite similar to those in January 2023.

These figures show that full container traffic increased by 9.15 per cent while empty container traffic increased by 16.81 per cent. Transit TEU management has increased by 24.63 per cent.

Traffic with the Far East increased again, with 63,038 TEU handled last month (+37.39 per cent compared to January 2023).

In January, PAV declared that it is maintaining its operations on both the Atlantic and Mediterranean routes despite the ongoing crisis in the Red Sea.

That same month, export freight prices from PAV rose for the third straight month, reaching 43.53 per cent.
