Port of Valencia exceeds five million containers

Through the period January to November 2019 the Port of Valencia recorded over five million TEUs, according to a December announcement.

This represents a 5.86% increase compared with the same period in 2018.

The 11 months recorded of 2019 indicated that the three ports of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV) have transported 74.78 million tons, 6.49% more than in 2018.

Regarding the containers, of the more than 5 million that Valencia Port has managed in the 2019 period, 3,780,143 were full (4.41% more) and 1,238,463 were empty (10.55% more). Of the full ones, 876,000 were cargo or export (5.43% more) and 712,561 were unloading or importing (5.36% more).

In relation to ships, between January and November the ports and port service companies of the APV attended 7,313 vessels (3.20% more).

Regarding the geographical areas with which Valencia Port’s clients work, the Mediterranean and Black Sea areas stand out with a total of 21.37 million tons, an increase of 7.56%. This is followed by Spain (other Spanish ports) with a traffic of 9.4 million tons and an increase of 3.32% and Far East, with 8.85 million tons and a decrease of ‐0.69%.

By countries, the US is consolidating during this year as Valencia Port’s first trading partner, with whose ports 7.3 million tons have been imported and exported (23.48% more). It is followed by China with 5.9 (‐0.74%), Italy with 5.8 million tons (+ 1.38%) and Turkey, 5.4 million tons (+ 41.30%).
