Port of Melbourne container throughput thrives in April

The Port of Melbourne has revealed its April trade numbers, which show a significant year-on-year (YoY) increase in container throughput, totalling 270,000 TEU.

Full container import volumes (excluding Bass Strait) increased in April 2023 compared to the previous year, with furniture, household appliances, metal manufacturers, and paperboard all exceeding last year’s level.

Full container export volumes (excluding Bass Strait) were also higher in April 2024 than the previous year.

Total empty container movements increased in April 2024 compared to the previous year’s quantities.

This comes two months after the Port of Melbourne reported a total container throughput of 262,250 TEU in the month of February.

In March, the Port of Melbourne released its trade figures, revealing a notable YoY rise in its container throughput, amounting to 280,900 TEU.
