Port of Los Angeles appoints new Community Relations Director

The Port of Los Angeles has promoted Cecilia Moreno, a veteran employee of the Harbor Department, to be its new Community Relations Director.

Moreno will be in charge of the port’s community relations team, special events, administration of the department’s Community Investment Grants programme, and sponsorship and membership management.

Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka, said: “Cecilia brings a wealth of knowledge and direct experience with our Port community to this position.

“We are fortunate to have Cecilia’s expertise and experience as we work to strengthen our community relations and communications throughout all of our Harbor communities.”

Moreno joined the port in 2006 as a Community Affairs Advocate, serving Wilmington stakeholders.

During her time at the port, she has established herself as a Harbour Area leader. She founded the Wilmington Neighbourhood Council and has served on the boards of the Wilmington YMCA, Friends of Banning’s Landing, and the Harbour Division Community-Police Advisory Board.

Moreno was recently named Volunteer of the Year by the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce after serving on the Board of Directors for more than 20 years, many of them as a Board Member. Moreno takes over for Theresa Adams-Lopez, who left the port earlier this year.

In August, the Port of Los Angeles reported a notable upswing in its container handling operations, with a total throughput of 828,016 TEU.

One month later, the Port of Los Angeles released a Waterfront Connectivity draft for San Pedro, a long-term planning document outlining strategies to better connect the larger region to the LA Waterfront.
