The construction of the new double RoRo ramp at Huelva’s South Dock is progressing quickly and is set to finish by the end of the year.
With the deep foundations already completed, work is now focused on the access platform, docking facilities, and the floating ramp.
This new ramp is expected to significantly increase the dock’s efficiency by allowing four ferries to load and unload simultaneously.
Started in January 2023, the €19.4 million ($21.5 million) project is receiving EU support aimed at improving multimodal transport and reducing carbon emissions.
Ferrovial Construction is leading the project, which includes building a reinforced concrete platform, a floating steel ramp, and several new docks. These docks will support vessels up to 190 metres long and will be equipped with walkways and heavy-duty bollards.

The upgrades also include new walkways for passengers, a pedestrian corridor across the dock, and improvements to lighting and traffic control systems.
“The implementation of this new infrastructure will enhance the competitiveness of the South Dock, where passengers and passengers merchandise ferry vessels operate, making connections between Huelva and the Canary Islands, thus facilitating the agility of port operations and promoting the growth expectations of the Port of Huelva in terms of the future implementation of new regular lines with new destinations,” said the President of the Port of Huelva, Alberto Santana.
Just recently, GAC Spain, a provider of shipping and logistics services in the Iberian Peninsula, opened a new office at the Port of Huelva.
