CMP awaits new STS cranes
Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) has announced that it is awaiting the arrival of its new STS cranes from Konecranes, which will be installed at the new container terminal in Ydre Nordhavn.

These cranes will be shipped one at a time to the new container terminal in Ydre Nordhavn at CMP, and are expected to arrive a few weeks apart. The first crane is expected to arrive by the end of this week.

The cranes weigh approximately 1,150 tonnes each and are just over 77 metres high. With the boom raised, they reach a height of 108 metres.

This size, combined with several new features such as remote control and semi-automatic operation, will reportedly future-proof the container terminal for many years to come.

It is expected that the cranes will be put into operation after undergoing extensive testing when the container terminal’s operations are moved from their current location at Levantkaj in the second half of 2025.

“The cranes’ journey to Denmark takes about four days, followed by a few days at the quay for securing and preparing for installation on the designated crane tracks at the container terminal,” said Povl Dolleris Røjkjær Ungar, COO at Copenhagen Malmö Port.

“The journey from one of the world’s leading crane suppliers is the culmination of long-term planning and execution in close collaboration between us and Konecranes.”

“It has been a pleasure to work with CMP throughout this project and now we’re at the delivery stage.

“We’ll continue to work closely with CMP through the unloading, testing and commissioning of this first crane and the second that’s coming,” said Simo Mustalammi, Director, STS cranes, Konecranes.

Last September, CMP fully phased in fossil-free fuel at its container terminal in Copenhagen with HVO100 fuel.
