Annick De Ridder, Vice-Mayor of the City of Antwerp and President of the Board of Directors of Port of Antwerp-Bruges, said: “Together with the port community, we take our responsibility to make the release and collection of containers safer, more transparent and more efficient.
“I would like to thank all parties involved; it is thanks to them that the roll-out of CPu is possible. The new data platform uses identity verification and Customs gives the green light to release a container.
“The system streamlines administrative procedures while providing a clear picture of the container’s status at any point in the process. By using innovation and digitalisation, we combat the socially and economically disruptive forces of the drug underworld.”
Additionally, the port reported that 60 per cent of the containers collected daily at its deep-sea terminals are using CPu.
