The Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA) AGM, celebrated in Bilbao, Spain, last week between the January 30 and February 1, 2018, focused on digitalization and finalized new members.

Two seats were renewed at the AGM debate on January 31, with Fae Brennan appointed as Chair of the Communications, Events and Educational Programmes Committee, which was established last year.

The group merges the work and aims of the previous Special Events and Communications Committees.

PEMA's General Assembly also approved the appointment of Jon Sojo, former SEPE Committee Chair and Export Director of TRATOS, and Pietro de Micheli, COO of Bedeschi Spa, as members of the board.

Another announcement by the association was that Dr. Maurizio Bragagni MBA would be stepping down from the board to participate as a candidate on the election for the Italian Senate.

President of PEMA, Ottonel Popesco, moderated the AGM and lead discussion panels, which included Lamia Kerdjoudj-Belkaid from FEPORT, Richard Brough from ICHCA, Xavier Pascual from SENER, Iván Deosdad from NOATUM and Boris Wenzel from Terminal Link.

Port Technology will also be bringing together the best minds in the port industry at its Container Terminal Automation Conference on March 14 – 15, 2018 – London, UK

The topic of digitalization was a common theme throughout the day.

Speakers examined the ways in which technological developments will enable safe, secure and sustainable ports.

Concluding the discussion, Popesco, addressing the general assembly, said: “With the necessary ambition among PEMA members, everybody can be best in class in improving safety, driving efficiency, and reducing environmental impact.”

The last day of the conference comprised the Committee Meetings, where Committee Members continued developing the PEMA Information Papers as well as laying the groundwork for future proposals.
