NYK's fifth LNG-powered vehicle carrier arrives in Port of Nagoya

Freesia Leader, the fifth LNG-fuelled pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) operated by NYK, has arrived at the Port of Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture.

The vessel got LNG fuel from Kaguya, an LNG-bunkering ship managed by Central LNG Marine Fuel Japan Corporation, a joint venture owned by NYK and other firms, after landing in Nagoya.

China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing) Co. Ltd. built the third of four LNG-fuelled PCTCs.

In the intention of realising and passing on a thriving global environment through eco-friendly transportation, the new PCTC was named after the freesia flower.

In July 2023, three NYK Group companies: NYK, Japan Marine Science Inc., and MTI Co., Ltd. — participated in the MEGURI 2040 Fully Autonomous Ship Project administered by the Nippon Foundation.

More recently, NYK Bulkship (Atlantic) N.V. (NBAtlantic), a NYK Group firm, installed a wind-assisted ship-propulsion unit on a bulk carrier with Cargill International S.A. (Switzerland), a subsidiary of Cargill, Incorporated (US).
