MOL, MCSI introduce new LNG carrier company

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and PT MCS International (MCSI) have established a new joint-venture LNG carrier manning company in Indonesia.

The joint venture intends to start operations in April 2024 and will primarily assign sailors to the MOL Group’s fleet of LNG tankers.

The carrier manning company comes four months after MOL announced a leasing deal for three new LNG carriers under construction at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd.

According to MOL, the foundation of this new manning organisation intends to contribute to the stable security of seafarers.

It is critical to recruit, train, and retain top-tier seafarers who are trained to manage LNG on vessels transporting LNG.

In September, MOL reached an agreement with Petronas CCS Ventures Sdn Bhd and MISC Berhad (MISC) to explore a joint venture for investing in liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO2) carriers for CCS projects.

That same month, MOL and Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. (Idemitsu) announced the joint start of a demonstration test on the recycling of marine plastic waste.
