Discussions over territory in a maritime demarcation agreement signed by Egypt and Saudi Arabia have sparked rows between Egyptian politicians.
The video (above), released by Al-Masdar News yesterday (June 12, 2017), shows the anger felt by members of Egypts parliament over a decision in April to declare the Red Sea islands of Tiran and Sanafir to fall within the territorial waters of Saudi Arabia.
Street protests and extensive criticism of the government has since resulted in a security crackdown.
Reuters has reported that a government report advising parliament on the terms of the agreement shows that Egypt will keep administrative control over the two islands as it plans to transfer to Saudi Arabia.
The uninhabited islands, once the border between the Ottoman empire and British-controlled Egypt, are strategically important because of their location on the sea route to the ports of Aqaba in Jordan and Eilat in Israel.
