The Manila International Container Terminal (MICT), the flagship terminal of International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI), has deployed two fully electric terminal tractors—the first deployment of such equipment in a Philippine port.
MICT is piloting the use of electric terminal tractors to help improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions in its port operations.
The two Qomolo E-truck S2 units were manufactured by Westwell Technology. Powered by lithium iron phosphate batteries, the tractors have a rated motor power of 263 kilowatts (kW) and a peak output of 410 kW. They operate with zero emissions.

Christian Lozano, MICT Chief Executive Officer, said the deployment is part of ongoing efforts to adopt more sustainable technologies. “The testing of electric terminal tractors is another step toward modernising our operations with sustainability in mind,” said Lozano
“It supports our broader goal of transitioning the MICT into a green port. We will continue to evaluate technologies that help reduce our environmental impact while maintaining efficient operations.”
Earlier this year, MICT announced it is progressing with the construction of Berth 8, designed for ultra-large container vessels of up to 18,000 TEUs capacity.
