A.P. Moller–Maersk is planning a joint venture with Danske Bank to develop new payment services and solutions for its digital platforms.

A Maersk spokesperson revealed that the project, named GateTu, would provide the company’s global customers with “an even better experience”.

The merger is currently under review by the European Commission with a provisional deadline of August 25, 2017.

A Maersk spokesperson said: “The project is still in its early development phase, and we look forward to be able to present more details in the future.”

Executives of the world's largest container shipping company have been increasingly vocal about Maersk's ambitions to embrace new technology.

Vincent Clerc, Maersk Line’s CCO, announced early on in the year that the company was aiming to be “the integrator of global shipping”.

Maersk has since taken steps to achieve the goal by selecting Microsoft as the cloud partner for its digital transformation.
