Maersk announces new Regional President for North America

A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) has announced the appointment of Charles van der Steene as the new Regional President for North America.

On 1 February 2024, van der Steene will join the company’s Executive Leadership Team.

Van der Steene joined Maersk in 2011, bringing extensive worldwide expertise in commercial leadership, operations, and general management.

He formerly commanded Maersk’s commercial organisation in North America and most recently oversaw Maersk’s Global Commercial Excellence and Transformation organisation.

Narin Phol, Regional President of North America since 2019, will become Chief Product Officer for Logistics & Services on the Executive Leadership team, located in Copenhagen.

Vincent Clerc, Maersk CEO, said: “Charles has a proven track record and enjoys great respect among our North American customers and within the Maersk organisation as a natural collaborator and leader.

“North America is our number one market, and Charles takes helm of a very well-run organisation. The steady hand he brings to the role is well suited to guide the regional organisation as it delivers integrated global logistics to the customers we serve.”

This month, the shipping giant named its latest methanol-enabled container vessel ‘Ane Maersk’ at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea.
