Ali bin Masud Al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry for Oman and Jasem Jaderi, Governor General of Iran’s Hormozgan province, have officially inaugurated new direct shipping routes from two Omani ports to the Port of Shahid Bahonar in Iran, according to the Tehran Times.

Al Sunaidy said that with the launching of the new shipping routes, Oman aims to achieve transit times of two hours between both countries.

Mojtaba Khosrotaj, Head of the Trade Promotion Organization for Iran said that both countries see each other as a trade gateway to other countries in the neighbouring region.

In early 2016, Oman announced a deal to sign trade agreements that would forge shipping ties with Iranian terminals in Tehran.

Trade is set to boom in Iran after it was reported that a nuclear deal had been struck to allow the lifting of sanctions and thereby give non-US government entities the opportunity to trade with Iran.
