Hapag-Lloyd introduces a new peak season fee from East Asia to North America

Hapag-Lloyd has announced a new Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) coming into effect from East Asia to North America. 

According to Hapag-Lloyd, this PSS applies to all containers gated in beginning 1 September 2023, and continuing until further notice.

The details for this PSS are:

  • 20′ Dry Container: $480
  • 40′ Dry Container: $600
  • 40′ High Cube Container: $600

The geographical scope of Hapag-Lloyd’s PSS is as follows:

East Asia: Japan, Republic of Korea, Taiwan (PRC), Hong Kong (PRC), China (PRC), Macau (PRC), Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia and the Philippines to United States and Canada

In July 2023, Hapag-Lloyd increased its tariff rates for shipping routes between Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, and destinations in North and South Europe.

More recently, Hapag-Lloyd entered into a partnership with DB Schenker to use a waste- and residue-based biofuel to cut emissions during container shipping.
