Pakistan’s Gwadar Port is to be made fully-operational by mid-April, 2015 after Pakistani authorities were successfully able to acquire around 900ha of land.
Dostain Khan Jamaldini, Managing Director of Gwadar Port Authority (GPA), said: “Our target is to make the port fully operational by mid-April and by that time the first commercial ship will dock at the port and a new ship lane will be operational thereafter.”
Infrastructure development at the port is also in the final stages while work was in full swing to establish free-trade zones, according to the Express Tribune.
Jamaldini said: “These free-trade zones will be exempt from customs duty, sales tax and income tax to encourage businessmen and industrialists.”
He went on to say that a Memorandum of Understanding would be signed between the GPA and Zhuhai, China to use each other’s ports for an initial 10-year period.
As well as using the ports, Zhuhai port authorities would also train Gwadar Port staff.
