The Port of Hamburg has announced that Twill, a digital freight forwarding platform affiliated with Maersk, is now live in Germany, the largest EU market for intercontinental trade.
The Twill platform provides customers with full visibility of their shipment, enabling them to track cargo as it is transported.
Another feature of the service, according to a statement, is that customers can co-develop with Twill by submitting requests for new updates on a regular basis.
Adam Yaron discusses digital freight forwarding in a recent Port Technology technical paper
Frank Hellberg, CEO Germany at Damco, commented: “Germany is home to the largest EU market in container shipping – and as a result it is fiercely competitive.
“By adding Twill to our portfolio, not only are we better equipped to provide a further solution for every customer segment, it also helps us to retain young, digital talent, and gives us a new level of expertise in response to customer demand for a digital offering.
“It’s no secret that in today’s world the consumer decides when they want to shop, and we need an answer to this or they might shop elsewhere.”
Troels Stovring, CEO of Twill, added: Our digital platform targets a certain aspect of the freight forwarding market – we’re best positioned to help customers who are looking for a solution that takes the hassle out of shipping.”
