Containers are starting to be unloaded off the Ever Forward in an attempt to lighten the load ready to continue rescue operations.

A total of 550 boxes are planned to be moved off the stranded vessel over the next few days.

Salvors are currently moving a container every 10 minutes on average.

The move was announced after two unsuccessful attempts to refloat the container ship. General Average was declared by Evergreen earlier this month.

Officials from the US Coast Guard are still yet to determine what caused the ship to get stuck.

The Ever Forward initially ran aground in Chesapeake Bay near Baltimore on 14 March.
