Dr. Saanen: Why Port Systems Should be Standardized

Dr. Yvo Saanen, Commercial Director and Founder of TBA, an industry-leading consultancy, simulation and software specialist for ports, terminals and warehouses, has explained why standards are needed by the container shipping industry.

In TBA’s fifth video of the AI and Automation series, Saanen said that global standards are important in enabling systems from many different vendors to easily work together in a port technology landscape.

Dr. Saanen will be speaking on issues such as standardization at Port Technology’s Container Terminal Automation Conference.

He has built up his expertise in container terminal simulation over more than two decades.

Saanen said: “[Vendors] can only work together if they agree on standard interfaces, standard use of technologies, which is today still one of those areas where there is great debate and different viewpoints on how to solve things.”
