The world’s first smart green energy system for zero-carbon operations has been successfully brought online at the Port of Tianjin.
On 15 December the system was successfully connected to the grid at the Second Container Terminal of Tianjin Port.
COSCO SHIPPING Tianjin, as a solution provider, project investor and operator of the zero-carbon smart terminal, was invited to attend the grid connection ceremony.
The zero-carbon terminal is powered by wind and photovoltaic energy, achieving zero-carbon emissions in energy consumption and production.
During the construction of the terminal, COSCO SHIPPING Tianjin Goldwind New Energy Co., Ltd. provided zero carbon solutions for the smart container terminal at Section C of Tianjin Port, realising 100% self-sufficiency in the provision of clean energy for the terminal.
Phase I of Tianjin Port Section C Terminal Smart Green Energy System Project includes two 4.5MW distributed wind turbines, which is expected to generate 23.3 million kWh of electricity annually and reduce the carbon emission by 20,600 tons per year.
A 1.4MW photovoltaic project under construction is expected to be connected to the grid in mid-January 2022.
COSCO wrote that the company and the Port will “further deepen their cooperation” on the project’s Phase II construction for wind power deployment and on other new energy projects to support to build more zero carbon terminals at the port.
